What do you do to develop a community of writers already?
I have had students post comments to ideas and questions in a journal format on my Moodle site which allows them to choose which ideas they want to comment on.
We use moodle at my school too. Students are enrolled in individual "courses" - since each student must be enrolled in a particular course, does that mean that the responses are just between the teacher and individual student, or are the students able respond to each other through moodle?
My students are able to respond only in my Moodle site. What I like about this is that I teach four sections of the same class each trimester and this allows students from period 1 to choose from their own period and the other three periods. They respond first to my question and then respond to other students' ideas. I have also had students post passages from the stories we read, explain why they chose that passage or why it is significant, and then they can comment on teh comments.

ReplyDeleteI also find that giving students choice is a powerful tool.
ReplyDeleteMoodle discussion forums are a great way to get students to talk. They can respond to the teacher's question or to other students' responses.
